Getting Started

The initial step in our program process is to attend one of our information sessions. These sessions are designed to help you learn more about weight loss surgery in a comfortable, no-pressure setting. Our bariatric team will review all of the procedures for weight loss, including the Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Band, the Laparoscopic Gastric Sleeve, and the Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass. We will also discuss the risks of obesity and the benefits of weight loss surgery including improvement or resolution of certain metabolic conditions including type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnea, hypertension, and other life-threatening diseases. These will also be an opportunity for you to ask questions.

The goal of the dietitian is to help reeducate the patient regarding healthy eating, as well as to discuss the specific restrictions that will be necessary after surgery. In order for you to be successful, weight loss surgery must be accompanied by changes in your lifestyle before surgery.

Patients are required to demonstrate recent weight loss through a supervised diet program before surgery. In addition to confirming the commitment to a lifestyle change, weight loss before surgery has also been shown to decrease abdominal wall girth and shrink the liver, all of which contribute to a safer surgery and faster recovery.

Support Groups

To address our commitment to quality follow up care, we offer a free monthly support group. We welcome all interested persons to these informal group sessions, whether you have had, or are considering weight loss surgery, or you may be just looking for an opportunity to speak to others who have already gone through the procedure. These intimate group sessions allow time for personal sharing, encouragement, and education. It is a good way to establish a network of resources. Support group attendance has been shown to directly increase the chances of short and long-term patient success following weight loss surgery.

Exercise and Fitness

Our exercise and fitness program is an essential component of a successful weight loss surgery program. Participation in exercise before your surgery will greatly improve your ability to move around after surgery and speed up your recovery process.
