The goal of the dietician is to help reeducate the patient regarding healthy eating, as well as to discuss the specific restrictions that will be necessary after surgery. In order for you to be successful, weight loss surgery must be accompanied by changes in your lifestyle before surgery.
Patients are required to demonstrate recent weight loss through a supervised diet program before surgery.
In addition to confirming the commitment to a lifestyle change, weight loss before surgery has also been shown to decrease abdominal wall girth and shrink the liver, all of which will contribute to a safer surgery and faster recovery.
